The reality of God's promises

I was on a business errand and bumped my head on a steel pipe that was sticking out of a building. The impact knocked me to the ground. I got up, rubbed my forehead, and proceeded with my errand. As I went on my way, I affirmed that I could be free from any aftereffects—such as "a real shiner." But while I was driving back to my workplace, I started to feel queasy. By the time I got there I felt sick, and just getting from the car to my office was hard.

I was glad to finally sit down at my desk. I reached into my desk and took out Science and Health, and opened it to this sentence: "We can, and ultimately shall, so rise as to avail ourselves in every direction of the supremacy of Truth over error, Life over death, and good over evil, and this growth will go on until we arrive at the fulness of God's idea, and no more fear that we shall be sick and die" (p. 406). It was a quotation from the Weekly Bible Lesson that I'd chosen as my "passage for the day." I began to read it and let its spiritual truths fill my thoughts. I was uncomfortable sitting, so I stood up to pray and read. But standing gave me no relief, so I took Science and Health and limped into a large room where I was alone and, literally, started walking in circles. This seemed to be the only way I could function.
