Prayer heals food poisoning
One very hot summer during a two-day period, I was served spoiled food on three occasions. I became violently ill; for many days I couldn't retain any food or water. I was also unable to sleep. I prayed to get well, but I was only able to open the Bible and study one verse or open Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and read a single passage before getting sick again. A Christian Science practitioner prayed for me, and I listened to tapes of hymns and inspirational writings for comfort.
My husband became concerned and asked if I wanted to seek a doctor's advice. This was pivotal for me, because I asked myself what might be prescribed if I visited a hospital. I felt I'd probably be given an antibiotic of some sort. Then I looked up this statement in Science and Health: "Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates and purifies. Christian Science acts as an alternative, neutralizing error with Truth" (p. 162).
I tried to assimilate these ideas, totally confident that Christian Science would bring healing. I reached out to God, asking Him what I needed to know. The message was clearly, "That I am God." And then simply, "God is All."
