Individuality—a precious gift that can't be lost

What truly makes you you comes from God.

It Was The End of summer and time to remove from our garden the spent summer flowers. We'd had a pretty display of different-colored everlasting daisies—pinks, whites, yellows, and so on. It was easy pulling them out as I moved along the bed. But then I came to a bush that made me pause. Here were pink and white blooms on the same bush. Impossible! I thought.

My answer came as I pulled the bush. Though the branches intertwined to look like one bush, there were two distinct root systems growing in the same hole—one root producing white blooms, the other pink. Neither plant had interfered with the other's growth and beauty. I smiled, because this message of noninterference was just what I needed. It reminded me of this statement: "The divine Mind maintains all identities, from a blade of grass to a star, as distinct and eternal" (Science and Health, p. 70).

You see, for some time I'd been concerned that a friend's individuality was being swallowed up by others. To keep the peace, my friend's desires and the way she wished to care for her family were being submerged in what others thought was more important for them at the time.
