God is always in control

Travel difficulties turned around through prayer

We can never be in a place or a situation where God is not watching over and caring for us. Consider what the book of Jeremiah has to say about this: "Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord" (Jer. 23:24) What a help this truth is if we feel we are, or could become, the victim of circumstances.

About three years ago I was visiting a friend who had many disparaging things to say about the country of her birth. I also live in a country different from my native land, and I found myself saying to her, "I suppose it's not so much where we live as what we are bringing to the place we're in that's important. What we think does much to determine our experience."

Very soon I had to prove the truth of my words. My family and I were vacationing in our native country shortly after this conversation. On arrival, we were startled at the vulgar language we kept hearing. We also encountered aggressive drivers as we left the airport. Finally, our rental cottage was cold and damp. All this felt most unwelcoming.
