Depression overcome
I returned to studying Christian Science in 1991, and as I developed the habit of reading the Lesson-Sermon (found in the Christian Science Quarterly) each week, my desire for Primary class instruction grew. I did not know how to go about finding a Christian Science teacher other than by asking God for direction.
This is what I did. Although the teacher I contacted taught his class some distance from my home, every obstacle was overcome. Because I was following God's direction, everything fell into place. God truly does work out our lives according to His plan, not ours.
The second healing I would like to share is of overcoming depression that was the result of financial difficulty. During the summer of 1994 I spent twelve weeks in another state for training as a Christian Science nurse. I left my family for this period of time, knowing that this experience would bless my wife and two children as well as me. Because of the extra expenses while I was away, though, we got behind in paying our bills. I did not fully understand the scope of our situation until after my return home. When I realized the seriousness of our situation, I called a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. He assured me that God is our true source of supply, that He gives us what we need, and that this supply is spiritual and unlimited. This reminded me of the story in Second Kings of the woman with her two sons who had nothing but a pot of oil (see 4:1–7). She was told by Elisha to gather containers into which she was to pour the oil she did have. The supply was so abundant that she could then sell the extra oil and pay off her debt.
