Watching and praying for the children of the world

When I was in college, I was a member of a group that prayed for the college community. We would take a problem that we felt was of concern to the students and pray. One week the concern was child abuse. This may seem a strange topic for a college community, but one of our group's participants requested it.

One night that week, after my homework was done, I turned to my Bible with the children of the world in thought. I opened to this verse: "The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders" (Deut. 33:12). This passage reassured me of the real man's continuous safety in God.

I went on researching in the Bible and Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, learning what these two great books had to tell of God's love for man. What I was seeing there led me to affirm that evil is unqualified for existence—a lie about God and man—since it could not have been created by the only creator, who is good. As I felt fully certain of God's healing power at work, I was ready to go to sleep for the night.
