Listen

Through my study of Christian Science, I've learned to develop a spiritual form of listening. This has strengthened my understanding that there is only one power, God, who is supreme and governs all true activity.

Elijah proved this when fleeing from Jezebel, as related in the Bible. We read, "Behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: and after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice" (I Kings 19:11, 12). By responding to that still small voice of God, Truth, Elijah was able to go forward and complete his mission.

In The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, Mary Baker Eddy says, "To-day, if ye would hear His voice, listen to His Word and serve no other gods" (p. 152). The ability to listen for, and heed, divine intuition can bring relief from any problem. This kind of listening is a form of prayer.
