Years ago an aunt visiting my husband and me told us of a healing her son had experienced. She had tried every avenue for help known to her but had found that nothing could cure the condition. Then she heard of Christian Science. As a last resort she requested the prayerful assistance of a Christian Science practitioner, and the boy was healed very quickly.

At the time of the aunt's visit, my husband was very ill with what had been diagnosed as malaria. In her loving way, the aunt wanted to help us to understand some of the spiritual truths she had learned since taking up the study of Christian Science. When she returned to her home, she began sending us copies of the Sentinel. From this beginning we started our study of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

The malaria subsided, but we had been informed by doctors that it would return, and it did. This time we relied on Christian Science treatment. The condition was healed and never recurred.

Science and Health states, "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration." And so we came to understand the at-one-ment we truly have with our Father-Mother God. This wonderful realization helped and guided us.

At one point friends invited our son, who was five at the time, to stay with them for the day. Somehow our son caught his leg in a slow-moving vehicle, which flipped him around. His leg appeared to be broken. Both our friend and the boy were in tears when our friend brought him to the door. The friend wanted permission to take our son to the hospital where his wife worked as a nurse. I knew of the love this couple had for our child and could not accept the thought of neglect that was overwhelming the man. I reassured him that we would ask a Christian Science practitioner right away to pray for our son.

I called a practitioner. The leg was quickly healed, and the next morning the child was able to ride his bicycle as proof to his friends that he was all right.

Our daughter, when she was very young, touched a belt on a running motor. Her thumb was cut severely. Our prayer included the realization of this little one's absolute perfection in her true being as a spiritual child of God. The thumb was fully healed and no scar remains.

There have been many healings in our family, for which I am deeply grateful. But I also want to express gratitude for the Christian Science periodicals and radio/television programs that are extending this teaching throughout the world. Above all I am thankful that our great Master, Christ Jesus, exemplified God's goodness and law throughout his life's work. May we humbly follow his example.
