I was introduced to Christian Science through an issue of the Sentinel given to me by my uncle. Prior to this my life had been a continuous seesaw of success and failure. After I'd read that Sentinel, my uncle suggested I visit the local Christian Science Reading Room door for the first time, my infant daughter in my arms, and being greeted with a welcoming hello. The librarian was calm and patient while I talked excitedly about the message I'd found in each of the articles in the Sentinel. She then suggested that I read Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
I went home and read the book, seeking only peace of mind, not a physical healing. So imagine my surprise! I read this passage (p. 14): "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well." As I read this I paused and tried to do as the words said. I was so uplifted that I was instantaneously healed of a sinus headache stemming from a difficulty of many years' standing that had brought with it vision and dental troubles. The healing proved to be permanent.
