A friend of mine asked me to spend a few days with her in a large city in the United States. As we were exploring part of the city, we were waiting for a traffic light to change at a street corner. Standing there, I was hit squarely in the chest by a loose truck tire that had rolled down a steep hill. The tire then bounced off and hit my friend.
As people crowded around me, I assured them I was all right. But when I tried to get up, I realized that I didn't have the use of my arms. Although my chest was not injured, my arms had been broken near the shoulder.
An ambulance took us to a hospital emergency ward. Through the help of attendants, each of us was able to get in touch with friends and a Christian Science practitioner. My companion was soon taken home. Kind friends helped her to visit me during the time I was there. She was completely recovered by the time I left for a nursing facility for Christian Scientists in Canada.
