Since childhood I have had many proofs of God's care

Since childhood I have had many proofs of God's care. I was brought up in Christian Science and readily accepted its spiritual truths. I remember seeking God's help particularly for one problem I had as a child; I was a slow learner. I experienced much unhappiness due to this difficulty. At one point I was instructed by my mother, who was a Christian Scientist and also an elementary-school teacher, about how to study the weekly Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly. The many truths I found in this study soon helped me realize that I reflected God-given ability. From that point on there was healing, until the learning problems completely vanished. Years later I became a schoolteacher myself.

Problems of supply, employment, and companionship have been resolved, and physical difficulties healed, all through reliance on God in Christian Science.

In 1977, when I was expecting our second child, I called a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer during the pregnancy. Later, the doctor I had engaged to deliver the baby told me that I had a thyroid condition. I tried to pray for myself, but I became engulfed in fear. (A close family member had been operated on for the same condition.)
