Christian warfare
Betrayer, captors,
alarm disciples sleeping,
who respond to enemy without, and swinging
heavy steel
of willfulness, pride, fear,
wound a man.
"Put up thy sword,"
beckons the wakeful Master.
Girt with truth, no weight of desire,
the Saviour strikes
foes unseen—sin beheaded,
fear's grip broken—
and leaves battle-trace of healing.
Followers, rearm!
Grasp light sword of Christliness, undeceived.
Purging thought of evil's nameless boast,
we vanquish ghosts of circumstance
and all are blessed.
