Living eternal life

How does one begin to demonstrate eternal life? The very first time we gain even a glimpse of the fact that God is Life, we are challenging the sin of mortality. We have begun the demonstration of Life. And it continues every moment as we put our spiritual understanding into practice by living such Christly qualities as purity, integrity, joy. "Life is eternal," Mrs. Eddy asserts in Science and Health. And she adds: "We should find this out, and begin the demonstration thereof. Life and goodness are immortal. Let us then shape our views of existence into loveliness, freshness, and continuity, rather than into age and blight." Science and Health, p. 246.

We literally live eternal life through the continuous unfolding of good, of creative ideas, in our experience. This means embracing and acting in accord with spirituality. Because Life is God, spiritual ideas are infinite—they can never end. As our understanding of God expands and our belief in evil diminishes, through our study of the Bible and the writings of Mrs. Eddy, life becomes more expansive, more interesting, more adventurous, because wonderful things are always going on in what the textbook, Science and Health, terms "the teeming universe of Mind." See ibid., p. 513.

Every healing in Christian Science teaches us that "Life and goodness are immortal," that only error dies or disappears from one's experience as we live Love. Realizing that age and blight are the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, we know that they are unreal and untrue, because their so-called originator, the serpent, or devil, is a liar, as Christ Jesus tells us. See John 8:44 . We then begin to shape our views and our every thought and act into "loveliness, freshness, and continuity."
