One day, while I was employed as a mother's helper for a family...
One day, while I was employed as a mother's helper for a family of Christian Scientists, I asked about their religion. They informed me that they believed in healing through prayer. This seemed perfectly natural, for I had been brought up to trust God as a loving Father, so I began a study of this Science. Over the years, complete reliance on God, Spirit, has resulted in the restoration of my physical well-being, interesting employment, the return of lost money, and release from shyness that had plagued me since childhood.
When I was still a comparatively new student, I was healed of a severe pain on one side of my face which had persisted for several days. Because I had not gained relief through my own prayer, I called a Christian Science practitioner for help. When I hung up the phone, my brother asked me to make his lunch. At first this seemed an unreasonable request, but my reluctance was overridden by this statement of Mrs. Eddy's in Science and Health (p. 385): "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself." Placing full trust in God's power to heal me, I started making sandwiches; before I finished, the pain completely left. With deep gratitude I called the practitioner to tell her I was healed.
Class instruction from a Christian Science teacher, who was always willing to help the pupils apply their understanding of spiritual truth, has been a precious waymark in my life. The inspiration and spiritual advancement that I received from class and the yearly association meeting provided the basis for the healing of a growth on my body.
