Universe—which concept?

One evening I was watching an interesting television show called "Einstein's Universe." One theory being discussed explained that the universe was created with one "big bang out of nothingness." Special visual effects showed primordial energy expanding as galaxies that are—even now, the narrator said—moving apart at tremendous speed. In one possible future, the galaxies were shown moving back together again, leading to the collapse of the universe back as it had begun.

This program brought to mind a statement by Mrs. Eddy: "Material substances or mundane formations, astronomical calculations, and all the paraphernalia of speculative theories, based on the hypothesis of material law or life and intelligence resident in matter, will ultimately vanish, swallowed up in the infinite calculus of Spirit." Science and Health, p. 209;

Christian Science reveals the spiritual universe—never beginning and never ending—as the only universe. This universe, including individual, spiritual man, is the emanation, or idea, of divine Mind. The material universe and mortal so-called man are demonstrably mortal mind's objectification or creation, which must not be taken as reality. Changing our material perception of the universe, we can see and feel something of spiritual reality now. This brings regeneration and healing.
