It has been half a century since I overheard a conversation that started me on a search for Christian Science. One speaker related a healing of his wife. Although I was, and had been for some time, suffering intensely from a stomach disorder, my reaction to this story of healing was a silent sneer of disbelief. Then the other person told of witnessing the regeneration of a young woman, an outcast, through her acceptance of Jesus' healing method, which Christian Science teaches. At that moment, my prejudice toward Mary Baker Eddy and Christian Science was instantaneously healed. So I was eager to learn more about this religion which had rehabilitated a derelict.

Then about two months later I visited a sister. By a friend, my sister had been given some magazines, among which were several copies of the Sentinel that had been given to this friend by a neighbor. The neighbor and her son were at that time the only students of Christian Science within a distance of about two hundred miles of my home; therefore, the day after these copies of the Sentinel came to my notice, I called on her and learned where the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, could be purchased.

In a very short time, I began to study this religion which was so foreign to all I had ever been taught, physically or spiritually, that a doubt of my ability of ever being able to understand it presented itself: but then came the angelic thought. "Just keep studying, and you will understand."
