Among the Churches

Currents Notes

Bridgeport, Conn. —On September 15, 1918, First Church of Christ, Scientist, dedicated the church edifice on Lafayette Street. During the past year the building has been renovated and enlarged, the seating capacity doubled, pews added, and an organ installed. These together with other improvements cost about thirteen thousand dollars, ten thousand of which was raised within a year. The church is absolutely free of debt.

It is about twenty years since a group of ten people interested in Christian Science met to hold a service. Since then the growth of the church, organized in 1899, has been steady and uninterrupted. Through its down town reading room, its distribution of literature, and its semiannual lectures the church offers many opportunities to those who are seeking to know of the teaching of Christian Science.

It has been able to make substantial contributions to the War Relief work maintained by The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and has aided in the rehabilitation of refugees abroad.—Bridgeport Post.
