Love

How little knew that Pharisee of Love,Who gave his honored guest no welcome kiss,That guest whose heart reached out so yearninglyTo bless mankind—to heal its griefs and pains!Even cool water for his sun-drenched feetUnproffered was, because of selfish pride.

Lift Up Your Hearts

Just as a child its mother's call obeys,Yet waits not always for her call to hear,But unreproven to that presence comesAnd comfort finds, as mother's lips bestowThe kiss which heals alike pretense or hurt;So we, O Father, hear Thy call and find,In our obedience, brighter glows the lightWhich leads on through the long day's chastening.

A Prayer—Before Our Lectures

O Life! Athirst for Thee earth's children come,The maimed, the halt, the blind, the deaf, the dumb; And Thy pure Word is here for all to-day,Not one who hears, need empty go away;Ne'er shall Thy Word be spoken, Lord, in vain;It shall accomplish, time and time again.

Fear Not!

Fear not, dear child, Though night is dark, For Love is there.

A Loving Wish

I Thank Thee, Father

I thank Thee, Father, that I smiled to-day And saw that smile reflected in the way, As I passed by.

Peace

O SILENT Father! How I once did longFor quiet places where the clashing hasteOf men had never dinned; where hills reached upTo touch the cooling sky, the cattle lowedDistant, in calming, muffled tones; where sangThe thrushes with their single, mellow note,And grasses humbly whispered in the winds!

Omnipresence

BEYOND the border of Thy lawI cannot be;For who hath power to stray beyondInfinity?

There is Lifting

HE rideth into Egypt—Into Egypt the Lord ridethSwift upon a cloud,Searching out His own.

Morning!

Another day dawning!Let in the light;I shall know more of lovingBefore the night.

One Step Enough

Vision to see one step aheadIs all I need;Wisdom to take the nearest stepEnough, indeed.
