Time to curb a delusion

Originally published in the 1976 pamphlet “You can stop smoking”

A recent survey shows a trend gathering force over the United States to make it illegal to smoke in many public places, or at least in designated areas of grocery stores, restaurants, airport terminals, art museums, elevators, theaters, hospitals, buses, and other places. One state notes a definite rise in business in some restaurants since an antismoking law has gone into effect.

It is gratifying that the protests of non-smokers are beginning to be listened to, for the nonsmoker needs protection from the hazards of being an involuntary smoker. Much needs yet to be done at this period to clarify laws that will control smoking in public.
