The government is upon His shoulders
Many people are concerned about the US government shutdown, especially since analysts say the political impasse could cost billions of dollars and damage the country’s economy. As I’ve listened to know how to pray about this issue, I’ve been grateful for Christian Science, which has shown me that I can take a “long view” of events, seeking to see them from God’s perspective. As the Bible says, “Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment” (John 7:24).
I vividly remember the early years of the 2000s, when the economies of many countries were moving so slowly. In 2001 I was displaced from a job where I had worked for 20 years. I found a job in a new start-up business that I felt hopeful about—but my new boss warned me that she had been running in the red for the past year.
