One Saturday I was asked to drive a friend to the airport of a large Western city. I had spent much of the morning studying the daily Lesson-Sermon. From the Christian Science Quarterly The study had opened up a wonderfully clear sense of the ever-presence and the power of the Christ. When I picked up my friend, I found her bitter over some challenges she’d been facing, dreading the trip ahead, and fearing a situation she was sure she’d meet when she got home.
We spent the half hour it took to get to the airport talking about some of the wonderful truths that had unfolded during the morning. I’d seen that the only way to take away the so-called “sin of the world”John 1:29 —the challenge of mortality and the belief that there is substance and life and truth in matter—is to recognize the Christliness of man generically and individually.
