That plenty but reproaches meWhich leaves my brother bare,Not wholly glad my heart can beWhile his is bowed with care.

My Thought of God

God is my Life, and God is good,And in His goodness I'll rejoice;His care supplies my daily food,He guides me with His loving voice;And day by day my way I'll wendTo Him, my Father and my Friend.

"The Harvest truly is Plenteous"

"The harvest truly is plenteous,But the laborers are few;"The work is ready and waiting,Waiting for me and for you.
If you are tempted to revealA tale some one to you has toldAbout another, make it pass,Before you speak, three gates of gold.
Give me the gospel of the fields and woods—The sermons written in the book of books;The sweet communion of the things of earthFresh with the warm baptism of the sun.

A Cottage Portrait

WITHIN my humble hall there hangs against the wallA fairer flower than summer garlands show,—A beautiful old face whose gentleness and graceBeam forth like winter flowers beside the snow.

Gratitude

When the heart once enshrouded in darkness and gloom,Has been filled with the sunshine of God,Were it Possible then to conceal the bright raysAs they scatter their radiance abroad?

Why?

If the wren can clingTo a spray a-swingIn the mad May wind, and sing and singAs if she'd burst for joy;
Over the field when the day is fair,The sower scatters the seed abroad,Stays not to mark where it falls, his careBut to leave it with his God,Who sendeth the rain and the sun's bright rays,And a hundred-fold in the harvest days.
God's spirit falls on meAs dew drops on a rose,If I but, like a rose,My heart to Him unclose.

Smile and Sing

Smile, little sister, when all seems wrong,Shorten the long day with a song.
