THE STUDY OF THE LESSON-SERMON

Christian Scientists have found that regular and systematic study of the Bible and Science and Health is essential to the understanding and consequent demonstration of Christian Science, and as an aid to this study the Lesson-Sermons have proved to be of great value.

"THE MASTER OF THE HOUSE"

It is simply astonishing to note the quickness with which the spiritual sense of the Scriptures comes to students of Christian Science.

TRUE POSSESSIONS

In counseling the rich young man to sell all that he had and give the proceeds to the poor, in order that he might "have treasure in heaven," Christ Jesus uncovered one of the most subtle temptations to which professed Christian are subject.

"COME UNTO ME"

Jesus' saying, "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest," has furnished the text for many a sermon, and its strong assurance that there is indeed a rest for the wearied ones whose daily burdens seem greater than they can bear, has brought comfort to thousands who had otherwise succumbed to discouragement and dismay in the face of what seemed to be both material and spiritual defeat.
The keynote of that royal fourth chapter of Paul's letter to the Ephesians is found in the word "unity,"—unity in the thought of God, in the knowledge of His Son, in the faith that relies wholly upon Truth, in the love that blossoms in brotherhood, in the purity that is blameless, in the humility that is childlike, in the manly living that is tender-hearted and compassionate,—such is the compass of a concept whose circle is so complete that though the rest of "the world's best book" were lost, this epitome of right thought and deed would supply the aspiring and obedient with everything essential to their triumph.

"HE THAT SEEKETH FINDETH"

A few days ago one of the workers at headquarters in Boston received a letter from a friend which propounded a question pertaining to the conducting of the services in branch churches.

THE TRUE WORSHIP

The fourth chapter of John's Gospel contains a remarkably full account of an incident in Jesus' ministry which deals with the vital facts of religious experience in a way that cannot be ignored or forgotten by the thoughtful reader.

THE LEAVENING OF THOUGHT

History witnesses that in so far as professed Christians have been inhospitable to merited rebuke, indisposed to consider the manifest inadequacy of view for which they stand, in so far thought has not honored the Christ-ideal and their influence for good has been diminished.

A SOLEMN OBLIGATION

It is required of the teachers in our Christian Science Sunday Schools to teach all the pupils under their care the Ten Commandments, the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation as found in Science and Health.

READERS OF BRANCH CHURCHES

There is a question of "supply" which seems to confront many branch churches when it comes to the choice of those who shall fill the important office of Readers, and within the last few weeks there have come to us from various parts of the field requests to "say something in the Sentinel" on this particular phase of the problem.

THE DERELICT

We had passed the doldrums with their characteristic rain and fog and fluffy winds, and had entered the southeast trades, a region of sunny seas and steady sails, well named "The Sailor's Delight.

PLENITUDE VS. POVERTY

A careful study of the Bible reveals a widely different concept of poverty and riches than that popularly entertained, a truly metaphysical sense of these terms and others related to them, indicating mental rather than material conditions.
