Ankle injury healed

A few years ago, I flew to Boston to attend the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church with my wife and son. While walking down a flight of marble stairs after the Sunday church service, I noticed someone I knew in the balcony above. As I looked up and waved, I missed a step and fell down the rest of the stairs. I heard gasps from the large crowd of people, so I tried to jump up immediately but was unable to put any pressure on my foot. My son had to help me to a bench nearby.

My ankle was very painful, and it was hard to think clearly. My first thought was not a prayerful one: “Oh, great! You have broken something and are going to be walking around at the Annual Meeting tomorrow using crutches.” I could even visualize myself in a wheelchair.

Then I remembered a statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “Your decisions will master you, whichever direction they take.” She follows that with: “Reverse the case. Stand porter at the door of thought. Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously” (p. 392).
