Eyelid problem overcome

It’s taken me some time to know that God loves me and to lean on Him in all things. Before, I had believed that He attends only to emergencies—that I shouldn’t bother Him with other problems. I even somehow believed that it was tantamount to a sin to turn to God for everything. Today, I am sure that He loves each one of us infinitely, that we are all precious to Him, and that He is our very present help.
About eight years ago, some little growths appeared on one of my eyelids. I went to a doctor, who examined me and told me that this required surgery, which would be expensive. He also said that there was no guarantee that the growths would go away completely, adding that the growths could develop on my other eyelid.
Instead of having surgery, I decided to talk to a Christian Science practitioner and ask for metaphysical treatment, or prayer. I had already had healings through Christian Science, and I thought it would be my best option.
The next day, the growths were bigger and more inflamed. I was surprised and called the practitioner again and told him that I was worried. At the time, I was working as a human resources supervisor and was responsible for visiting the company’s 15 stores. On that day I had to work until late at night, and would have to visit a company store and deal directly with many people. I did not want to listen to human opinions and advice about this condition.
The practitioner continued to pray for me, and I studied the spiritual definition of eyes on page 586 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “Spiritual discernment,—not material but mental.” I prayed with this and also with “the scientific statement of being” found on page 468: “There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual.”
That day, I fulfilled my office commitments and left for the store, hoping that nobody would say anything to me about my eye. I arrived and said hello, and everyone greeted me kindly. I did my work, and no one made a single comment about my eye. That really caught my attention.
Then I remembered the story of the prophet Elisha in the Bible. After his servant was alarmed to find that they were surrounded by enemy forces, Elisha prayed and said, “Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see.” The Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he was then able to see that they were protected (see II Kings 6:8–17). Well, that’s how it was for me—and I felt peace and a lot of gratitude.
Within the next two days, my eyelid cleared up very naturally. No scar or trace of the growths remained. It was wonderful, and I was very grateful to God for His love and care. I was also grateful to the practitioner for his support.
I then realized I’d been healed of another eye problem as well. I used to feel constantly self-
conscious because my eyes would fill up with some discharge. I’d had this problem for a long time but hadn’t asked the practitioner for help with it. However, it too was completely healed.
It is wonderful to know that we can always turn to God for anything.
