Perfect timing from God
Originally published for the German Christian Science Herald online on January 30, 2023
First of all, I want to give thanks for the weekly Wednesday online testimony meetings from The Mother Church (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston), where inspiring readings from the Bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy are shared, as well as beautiful hymns, and powerful testimonies of healing from all around the globe.
I would also like to share gratitude for an encounter I had when I wanted to catch a subway to Frankfurt from Hanau in Germany, where I live. It was 15 minutes before the departure time, and I was walking as fast as I could, when my leg became painful. So I prayed, knowing that time is not part of my day and is a limited concept. As I had learned from my study of Christian Science, God is what governs me and my activities. Also, because God is Love and there is no pain in Love, I could not be in pain. In my prayer, I thanked God for the blessings, the protection, and the loving care I had already received that day, and I told God that I love Him. I kept praying this way until I reached the subway station.
To my surprise, the subway car I was planning to take had not left yet. The duration of the ride gave me time to listen to that week’s Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly. It had two statements from Science and Health that were just what I needed: “When one’s false belief is corrected, Truth sends a report of health over the body” (p. 194) and “Spirit’s senses are without pain, and they are forever at peace” (pp. 214–215). That was it! When I got off the subway, the pain was gone, and I was able to do all my errands pain-free.
Normally when I take the subway, I have to wait for the train to arrive, but when I walked into the subway, the car was just entering the station. I got on right away, and I made the connecting train, too.
During that trip, I sat next to a wonderful couple. During the pandemic, people did not like talking to strangers in public, but we had a pleasant conversation and a happy ride. Then when I arrived back in Hanau, the bus to my home was right there waiting for me. This perfect timing spoke to me of God. He took me, not just halfway, but all the way, including the healing of my leg. What a blessing!
I am so grateful to God for Mrs. Eddy’s discovery, Christian Science, which teaches us we can rely on God for every need.
