Guided to the job that needed me
Each of us has a right place and a purpose that express our individual usefulness. Mary Baker Eddy, the Founder of Christian Science, writes, “Each individual must fill his own niche in time and eternity.” She also helps us understand how to identify our unique, divinely appointed mission: “A student desiring growth in the knowledge of Truth, can and will obtain it by taking up his cross and following Truth” (Retrospection and Introspection, pp. 70, 86).
Even though I had been raised in Christian Science and had had many healings through prayer as a child, I drifted away from it for about ten years because my husband was opposed to it. I went back to Christian Science when I found myself in difficult circumstances as a single mom with two elementary school children. We had just moved to a new state, where I had no job and no friends.
I went to a Christian Science Reading Room and borrowed a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures—the Christian Science textbook, written by Mrs. Eddy. I began to read it day and night. I knew that the answers to my questions about God and my purpose were to be found in this book.
