Allergy to cats healed
Years ago I had a girlfriend, who had two delightful cats. I say “delightful,” but my physical reaction to them was anything but pleasant, as I had a very strong allergic reaction any time I was in the same room as the cats. It seemed so unfair. I really liked these cats, and my girlfriend adored them, too. What was I to do? Ask her to get rid of them, or avoid ever being in the same room with them? Neither seemed like a good option.
I had been raised in Christian Science, and I wondered if the allergy could be healed. I called a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful help and Christian Science treatment. She asked me if I knew the spiritual interpretation of the Lord’s Prayer from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (see pp. 16–17). I did. Then she asked me to give particular attention to the spiritual interpretation of the verse, “And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” The spiritual interpretation of that line in Science and Health is, “And Love is reflected in love.”
The practitioner asked me if I loved the cats. “Yes, I do,” I replied, but added, “I don’t know how I can stand to be around them.”
