Workplace issue resolved

I would like to testify to the practical use of prayer in the workplace. Many years ago, the company I was working for hired a new general manager who had a reputation as a hatchet man. This is someone who is trained to thin out a company, weeding out the “undesirable” employees, which often leaves behind a small core of overworked survivors.

My initial encounter with this individual was unpleasant, and after numerous others, I was prompted to begin searching for a new job, as I did not think I would last under his scrutiny. When the job search didn’t turn up anything, I was left to cope with a difficult situation. Other managers and employees were having similarly unpleasant encounters with this man, and the company did subsequently lose 15 percent of its workforce in one day. There didn’t seem to be any way out, and I felt despondent and fearful.

Looking for a sense of peace, I contacted a Christian Science practitioner and asked for help in applying prayer to this situation. Then I set about correcting misconceptions in my thought concerning myself and this manager. Up to that point, I had been seeing the employees at my company as helpless mortals stuck in a lose-lose trap, and this manager as personally responsible for their misery. What I came to see through prayer was that we are all the spotlessly pure children of God, reflecting His love, and that all of us are immune from the worldly thoughts of hatred, domination, fear, and strife.
