Letters

I am one of those readers who often sees letters to the Editor and is somewhat wary when someone writes about how every article in an issue helped them. Well—here I am. :)

I spent some time this morning with the beautiful Christian Science Bible Lesson on Soul, but I felt as if I were reading it through a murky haze. When I finished, I picked up the February 3, 2014, Sentinel. The first article, “Ending the blame game” by Jill Gooding, immediately started speaking to me. I totally related to it, thinking of someone I had been blaming for something. When Jill connected blaming with the “adder in the path,” I thought, “Oh!! Now I get it!!” I greatly appreciate the way she illustrated how we miss the whole point when we blame someone else for something. She explained that it isn’t the person—it’s the belief of life in matter that is the culprit, and that is what we need to pray about.

Then “Pets and endless life” by Tom Blair. What a wonderful article for all of us who love our pets and have either felt grief when they passed or worry about how we would handle it, something I have been thinking about. And then “Stolen car found” by Daniel Block. It spoke to me about the heaviness I was feeling about my car malfunctioning and having to bring it in for service, worrying about the cost, etc. I thought, “If this family can pray about a stolen car, I can certainly know that harmony reigns with any mechanical problem my car seems to have.” I felt peaceful, knowing that God is in control; there was no need for me to worry. And then the editorial: “Christ—friend to the friendless.” It was such a comforting reminder to me to know that the people I know who seem to have no one in their lives, and who I have worried about, have the Christ.
