Daily reminders

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, we can sometimes forget that it is a privilege to put down the false suggestions of all negativity. I am so grateful to the Sentinel, and all the Christian Science periodicals, as they help us do this by giving practical and inspiring ideas we can use daily.

My living circumstances are uncertain at present. I took great comfort from Gloria Preston’s article “Divine abundance—revealed!” in the October 25 Sentinel [“Defeating cancer”]. Gloria gave beautiful reminders of God’s love for all Her children, where she states clearly that “abundance is a permanent result of Truth, not a conditional proposition of matter.”

In the same issue, the article by Abigail Warwick, “Pakistan: God’s law is a present help,” was brimming over with powerful declarations and gentle reminders that we too “can follow Jesus’ example and search out opportunities to love more and so bring the grace of God to human view,” for our neighbours and ourselves.

Thank you to all the contributors, and to the Sentinel team, for the joy and inspiration you bring to readers around the world.

Lots to like in kids’ issue

My granddaughters, Laura and Emily, and I really enjoyed the November 8 kids’ Sentinel. I was visiting for Thanksgiving, and I had brought two copies to share with them.

We enjoyed doing the crossword puzzle about the Good Samaritan.

When we came to page 9 and read Keeton’s answer about what to do when teased, where he recommended the book Do Unto Otters, Laura said, “Oh! We have that,” and she went and found the book. It teaches respecting others and following “The Golden Rule,” and is very funny.

Laura was fascinated by Sean Hanser’s interview about marine biology, especially how the whales find their way home from Alaska down to Baja, Mexico, 5,000-6,000 miles away! We talked about how Laura and Emily know their way to school and shops only a few miles away, and how incredible it is for whales to navigate their long way home. They thought that God must help guide them.

Laura and Emily really liked Taylor’s poem to God. It made them feel peaceful, and they insisted on typing the sentences themselves.

Dancing with God

The December 6 Sentinel, “Let God take the lead,” was just wonderful! I especially enjoyed the article by Jennifer Doak, “5 lessons from the dance floor.” Every “dance lesson” she described rang so true in how we are to build and consciously nurture our inseparable relationship with God. With thoughtful analogies to ballroom dance, this article is a must-read, as we can never be reminded too often how much God loves us and wants to “dance” with us every day! We just need to trust, lean toward, and follow His lead in our thoughts and actions to feel God’s presence, which unfold days that are “big with blessings.”

Keeping step with God

The entire December 6 Sentinel on “Let God take the lead” was very helpful in reassuring me that when I follow His lead, the results will always be good and healing. The article “5 lessons from the dance floor” was so easy to follow. Having learned to country-western dance a number of years ago, I could definitely relate. All the points given showed how much better life can be if we learn to follow God’s lead.

I also enjoyed the editorial titled “Movie business.” It talks about how our outlook shapes our experience, but it’s more than just positive thinking. It’s about a “Spirit-sourced concept of ourselves.” And how we can “let God shape our outlook.” And that’s certainly another way to follow His lead.
