The Mary Baker Eddy Library for the Betterment of HumanityTM

In her true light ...

A look at the unpublished writings of Mary Baker Eddy

In September 2002, The Mary Baker Eddy Library for the Betterment of Humanity will open its doors. For the rest of this year, the Sentinel will bring readers selections from the Library's collection of materials.

Mary Baker Eddy wrote this letter to Septimus J. Hanna and Camilla Hanna, Editor and Associate Editor of The Christian Science Journal and The Christian Science Weekly. Mrs. Eddy's comments were prompted by her reading of the third issue of the Weekly, which four months later was renamed the Christian Science Sentinel. Most of this letter was originally published in the September 29, 1898, Weekly, but has not been reprinted since.

"Your highly interesting monthly and weekly issues are well sustained. They exhibit experienced and skillful workmanship. The last little sheet opens a vast area of influence—all on the right side. God bless you in this as in all thy undertakings. Every truth you promulgate, every good and ardent thought you entertain, though it expose you to the aim of evil, makes you healthier, wealthier, wiser, and longer lived—the evidence of the senses to the contrary not withstanding. Go on in this path—and your immortality is brought to light."
