Honesty in a department store
When I was a teenager, I got a job at a local department store to earn some extra money for Christmas. About a week before Christmas, I decided to use my money to go shopping in the store with my employee discount. I had $100 dollars folded in my pocket. I was planning on shopping after my shift ended.
About half an hour after taking a break, I checked my pocket and found the money was gone. I guessed it must have fallen out on my walk from the lunch room, and I began retracing my steps, frantically praying.
I was singing quietly to myself, "Shepherd, show me how to go" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 304), when a mix of thoughts came to me. First, "Man is honest." (That is generic man, which includes women, too.) Then I thought, slightly impatiently, "Who cares? I need to find something that's lost."
