The path to healing

Follow the map.

It Was A Sunny afternoon, and I was walking across a city park. Suddenly I was gripped by internal pain. I kept going, even though the walking aggravated the pain, because I became occupied by something even more immediate: I had started to pray.

With each step, I affirmed that God had created me to be in a permanent state of health. While the pain certainly felt real, I knew that God, who is good, is real and All. So that which isn't good has no validity.

I remembered something I had read about praying for physical healing: "One disease is no more real than another: All disease is the result of education, and disease can carry its ill-effects no farther than mortal mind maps out the way" (Science and Health, p. 176). It was the idea of a way or course being mapped out that was important to me just then. Mortal mind, a term used to characterize mistaken, materialistic thinking, has no actual ability. Because God is everywhere and is the one true Mind of the universe, no mistaken thought exists to oppose Him. The only existence it appears to have is the power we give it through belief in it.
