An acquaintance introduced me to Christian Science in...
An acquaintance introduced me to Christian Science in January 1971, inviting me to come to a testimony meeting at the local church. I went, and immediately realized this was what I had been searching for all my life. A few weeks after this my two boys and I had occasion to prove the practicality of the teachings of Christian Science.
Late one afternoon during rough play, one of the boys cut his lip deeply on a broken ceramic lamp. I washed and covered the wound and, to comfort other family members, I called a doctor. He said we could expect a discolored, swollen appearance of the wound in the morning, and that if it had not closed by then to bring the child to his office so he could put in stitches. After this I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner and explained the situation to her. Since no medication had been given, she agreed to give Christian Science treatment to my son.
I do not remember what she said, but we all spent a restful night. Early the following morning I gently removed the bandage from my son's face and gratefully beheld a clean, healthy, healed lip.
