About a year ago, when I picked up my son from the baby...
About a year ago, when I picked up my son from the baby sitter's house I noticed he had a fever. I immediately declared the truth that he is the perfect child of God; that he is made in the image and likeness of God and can only reflect qualities of God, which result in health and harmony.
That night I went over "the scientific statement of being," from Science and Health several times, and these sentences stood out: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. ... Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness" (p. 468).
The next morning the child wasn't feeling any better, and also had a rash with blisters. I called a Christian Science practitioner and asked for prayerful help. I explained the situation to her, and we both prayed to recognize that what looked like chickenpox, and was then prevalent in the community, had in reality never touched any of God's children, including this one. (The law did not require that we report these symptoms.) The practitioner recommended that we pray to understand that this thought of contagion was not "going around" in the divine Mind, God. She was confident, and assured me that disease is not part of God's perfect creation, and that the child could not be separated from His wonderful love.
