Freedom from pressure

Have you noticed how much is said these days about the strain or pressures of daily life? Circumstances that you or I might shrug off lay others low and sometimes vice versa. It's at times when we think we can't take any more that the words of Christ Jesus can reach us with a cool, calm comfort that relieves us from feverish anxiety.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light (Matt. 11:28-30).

A yoke is normally for two. Two oxen, for example, can be yoked together to pull a load, with one usually taking the lead. Instead of struggling alone, we can walk through life side by side with Christ, Truth—the divine idea of Love. When we feel worn to a frazzle, Christ can refresh us. When we just don't know what to do anymore, we can learn from Christ. When everything seems to be coming apart at the seams, Christ can make our burdens light. To one bowed under life's load of cares, could there be a more heavenly promise?
