Over the last forty years, since my introduction to Christian Science...
Over the last forty years, since my introduction to Christian Science, I have found this Science to be a very practical method for healing physical difficulties as well as business-related troubles. Two years ago I became more convinced than ever of the efficacy of Science.
At that time I began to manifest two embarrassing symptoms; my right eye began to exude an uncontrollable flow of tears and, at the same time, the right side of my mouth became numb. Soon after this during a periodic eye examination, I was advised that I had Bell's palsy.
I prayed silently, knowing that I did not have to accept this verdict as irreversible. On returning home, I sought the spiritual support of the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I also called a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. As I prayed, I gained a clearer understanding of the spiritual truth that man, who is in reality the reflection of God, could not express imperfection in the form of palsy. My study led me to the following passage in Science and Health: "Palsy is a belief that matter governs mortals, and can paralyze the body, making certain portions of it motionless. Destroy the belief, show mortal mind that muscles have no power to be lost, for Mind is supreme, and you cure the palsy."
