God has filled my life with blessings, and I would like to give gratitude for some of them. Two particular situations were very helpful in broadening my understanding of God. Several years ago I began tennis lessons with the idea that this would be an enjoyable activity for my husband and me to share. Although I had played some tennis earlier in my life, I had never seemed to be particularly athletic. In the lessons I endeavored to overcome this sense of limitation by realizing that the Godlike qualities I needed to express in the sport were similar to those I expressed in my careers as a mother and a musician—joy, balance, accuracy, intelligence, excellence, love, energy, to name a few. Seeing the activity in this spiritual light helped me to be freed from a sense of inferiority and to progress naturally.

After some time, however, my elbow became painful whenever I played tennis. Eventually this discomfort became rather constant, even while I was sitting still. Having been a student of Christian Science all my life, and having had many healings, I turned to God in prayer. In the past I had usually had quick healings, so I began to become discouraged when the condition did not improve right away.

I decided to ask a Christian Science practitioner to help me through prayer, and by the next morning I was free of pain. I was extremely grateful, and I wanted to understand how this change had taken place so quickly. I began an in-depth study of Christian Science; I longed to know God better, to see myself as His spiritual child, and to deepen my understanding of the healing process.
