The art of Christian healing

The computational skill and manual dexterity of a mathematics teacher I once had were amazing. To watch him perform complex algebraic operations on the blackboard would have been entertaining if one's grades hadn't been at stake! Classes were in awe of his ability to do complicated equations with one hand while he was following up and erasing what he'd just written with his other hand. Yet many students fell away from his course because they never fully understood the concepts he presented.

In contrast, another teacher also taught this subject was known for the art of his teaching. He took these same failing students and helped them master the course material that had earlier confounded them. He combined knowledge of the subject with a keen understanding of how best to convey it to others.

Technical knowledge is needed, of course, in every field. Both of these teachers had that. But there is more that is essential in any field than just raw data or technical information.
