Recently my body failed to function properly...
Recently my body failed to function properly, and I was in severe pain. For several days there was no elimination of any kind. Immediately I turned to God, confident that, as Mary Baker Eddy says in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "a spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive" (p. 463). I also acknowledged that every aspect of man's real being is controlled by God, Spirit, a fact which operates as law to regulate all bodily action. I clung steadfastly to these truths.
As progress was not apparent, I felt impelled to call a Christian Science practitioner who had helped me with other problems in the past. She immediately began to pray for me. Although the condition did not yield at once, I knew that divine Truth was acting to restore harmony. When I again talked with the practitioner, she gave me assurance and strengthened my trust in God's all-power. I felt I must continue to affirm that, as Science and Health teaches us (p.113), "there is no pain in Truth, and no truth in pain . . ."The more challenging the pain, the louder I declared this spiritual fact.
One day my husband went down for the mail and was greeted by a fellow tenant who is a surgeon. My husband described my difficulty to this man, who urged that I be taken right away to a surgeon specializing in such cases. My husband told the doctor that I was a Christian Scientist relying on God for healing, and that he was sure I would not agree to medical attention. The surgeon then contacted the specialist who soon called me, imploring that I be treated at once for this dangerous condition or it would be too late.
