Over a period of eighteen years, a solid spiritual foundation was laid in my life. This was accomplished through the love, patience, skill, and originality of numerous teachers in the Christian Science Sunday School. That foundation has withstood many tremors, and I have reason to feel profoundly grateful for the organization of the Christian Science Sunday School and its capable teachers.

In one of my early classes we memorized each week's Golden Text from the Christian Science Quarterly. That stock of Bible verses continues to give me aid and inspiration. The Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, and the Lord's Prayer, also learned by heart, were added to my treasures. But, without doubt, the most valuable gift we received from our teachers was the training to reason and pray for ourselves. Through study of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy, we learned how to search the Bible and extract the timeless spiritual message, which can be applied to today's problems with swift healing results.

In my first class we were encouraged to take control of our own thoughts and shown how to keep them spiritually pure. We learned to pray to God, our loving Parent, and to heal ourselves by understanding simple spiritual truths.
