My mother loved the Bible and read it constantly

My mother loved the Bible and read it constantly. I am grateful for this background. Through the daily study of the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly, the happy years spent in the Christian Science Sunday School, and the wonderful enlightenment of class instruction, the Bible is daily becoming the open Book of Life to me—my guide, offering solution to every problem.

While I was still a pupil in the Sunday School, there were many opportunities to use the understanding I was gaining. Later, when I was singing as church soloist, Bible truths often brought me support and healing. One Sunday this Bible message healed me of laryngitis (Ps. 118:14): "The Lord is my strength and song, and is become my salvation." I had no voice to sing the first hymn, but when I stood up for the solo I was in good voice. Indeed several people told me they had never heard me sing so well.

Once, while on holiday with a friend, I woke early one morning to find I could not move, even to get out of bed. As I laystill, I pondered Bible words from a solo (Isa. 60:1): "Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee." I wished so much that I could arise. Then I realized I could always arise mentally, through prayer—above any problem. I saw that as God's perfect child I couldn't help shining, whatever the material senses tried to say. The glory of the Lord is never absent, because God is ever present. Thanking God, I got up. When my friend awoke, I was dressed and completely well.
