"Christian Science treatment is a duet"

A man experienced in the healing work of Christian Science was heard to remark that "Christian Science treatment is a duet, not a solo." This remark implies that when we have requested treatment in Christian Science we have a part to play in the healing process, that we need to cooperate by taking a firm stand with Truth and by relying radically on spiritual means for healing.

Christ Jesus often required some form of cooperation or expression of faith from those he healed. When two blind men pleaded for a restoration of their sight, Jesus asked them, "Believe ye that I am able to do this?"  Matt. 9:28; When they answered in the affirmative "their eyes were opened." To the man with the withered hand Jesus gave the command, "Rise up, and stand forth in the midst."  Luke 6:8; When he said, "Stretch forth thy hand," the man complied and was healed.

As a rule healing is quickly accomplished when an error is challenged with the positive recognition of the spiritual facts of being. To one whose healing seems slow, there may be the temptation to yield to discouragement, resentment, or self-pity. He may wonder why he is faced with a problem and when he will be healed. This state of thought is negative and unrewarding, for it indicates an acceptance of error's false claim that it is an entity, possessing reality and dominion.
