Consecration

"Never was there a more solemn and imperious call than God makes to us all, right here, for fervent devotion and an absolute consecration to the greatest and holiest of all causes" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 177). These are the words of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, whose devotion and consecration are a source of constant inspiration to the sincere student of Christian Science. Has each one of us today answered the call for "an absolute consecration" to the Cause of Christian Science? Christ Jesus cited as "the first and great commandment," "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind." As we follow this commandment more consistently, we shall be giving "fervent devotion and an absolute consecration to the greatest and holiest of all causes."

If one has become disappointed or uncertain as to the efficacy of Christian Science, let him turn his face toward the light of Truth and consecrate himself to God's service. Perhaps one in bondage to false beliefs of sickness or invalidism may say, "I desire to be active in God's service, but I must await a more convenient time, when I shall be less concerned with the ills of the flesh." This is a specious argument, but each time one rejects about himself or about another a false claim of the carnal mind and replaces it with the truth of being, he is consecrating himself to God's service, bearing active witness to his true selfhood.
