Eye on the world: True health care
In “The values clash behind Republican health-care reform” The Christian Science Monitor reports on the political debate over healthcare in the United States. “As Republicans look at a health-care system that’s imposing ever higher costs on both average Americans and on the federal budget, they argue that principles like free-market competition and consumer choice could prove vital to making health care more affordable and accessible.” The Monitor continues, “health care, more than most issues, hinges around questions of compassion: In the case of this bill, is it right that as many as 24 million Americans could lose their coverage?” As the Republican-controlled Congress moves to replace the Obama-era Affordable Care Act, the details of access, coverage, and costs has a number of Americans worried about their health care.
