When I first heard of Christian Science,...

When I first heard of Christian Science, I had been ill for about eight years with a disease contracted in the Far East. I had been dieted and dosed and had had an operation, but the disease persisted, and the famous surgeon who operated told me I should always have to diet.

On reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy I soon saw that material theories, drugs, and dieting were useless. I gave them all up and was not a bit the worse, but the complete healing did not come for some years. I had much help from practitioners, for which I am truly grateful, but it was not until I had to do some very concentrated study of the Bible and Science and Health and our Leader's other writings, in connection with some church work which I was given to do, that I found one day that I was completely free. From not being able to stand for more than a few minutes or do any strenuous physical work, I have for many years now been able to stand for hours if need be. For a period during the war years I had to stand for six or seven hours a day and did so without any ill effects.

A few years ago I had another proof of the power of Truth. I had had treatment for some time for a troublesome, but not very severe, pain. One evening, however, the pain became so intense that I rang up the practitioner who had been helping me. I could not think or sleep or even keep still. During the night, when tired out, I dozed once or twice, but the pain woke me. I read the current Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly through more than once without apparently taking in much. At last I slept, and I woke in the morning completely free from pain. I had a long day of work before me, which I was able to do as if refreshed by a glorious holiday.
