It is now over three years since I became acquainted with Christian Science, as it was in the spring of 1907 that I took my first treatment. I was once picked up for dead from what was called heart failure, and had suffered two strokes of paralysis. The latter affected my left side and greatly aggravated an injury to my left knee received in the army, so that I was very lame for a long time. I had the second stroke in May, 1907, at which time I could hardly talk and my left arm was helpless.

My wife, who was then taking treatment in Christian Science, telephoned for a practitioner, and I commenced to take treatment and to read Science and Health. I soon began to recover, and the first day the practitioner told me to continue in the work I had to do, which I did with but very little inconvenience. By the evening of that day my tongue was better, I could talk plainly, and my left arm was much stronger. I took treatment for one month, and read Science and Health through several times, studying it from a scientific standpoint. There is such a wonderful change in my physical condition that my neighbors and friends often remark about it. It seems strange to them that one of my age (at that time sixty-five years) should recover so rapidly. I now walk without any traces of the disease in my general appearance.

The study of Christian Science has enabled me to conquer the fear of disease which was instilled in my child-hood, and I no longer fear that I shall take cold or get sick. Though exposed considerably I have not had a cold during the last two or three winters, and have enjoyed health and comfort much greater than in former years. I now regard myself as immune from colds. Since reading the Christian Science text-book I consider healing as an inherent attribute of man's consciousness, a divine blessing to the human family for the relief of distress and not a mere commodity to be brought to the patient in a medicine case. In all cases where the patient has faith this healing is found to be a free gift from God.
