With regard to the unreality of sin and death, Christian Science...

Western Mercury

With regard to the unreality of sin and death, Christian Science teaches emphatically and proves that these things are not true; further, that our belief in them is all the reality they can ever have. We need, however, to be quite clear as to the meaning of "reality." By reality is meant that which is eternal, indestructible, created by God. An unbiased study of the Christian Science text-book,

"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, will show how clearly the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science points out the necessity of following in the footsteps of the Master, and of obeying implicitly his commands. Christ Jesus taught and proved that sin, sickness, and death were not to be submitted to, but overcome, and he was the Wayshower. He came to fulfil the law of God, and in so doing he healed the sick and reformed the sinner. There is no greater law than the law of God, and it is therefore evident that a right understanding of the law of God—good—reveals the unreality of any other so-called law of evil, sickness, sin, and death. Our ability to prove this is in proportion to our understanding.

The vicar pointed out that "Pain, sickness, misery, and death are everywhere." Christian Scientists realize fully how real these things seem to the human consciousness, but they are learning also that the certain and only way of salvation from all these troubles is to let that Mind be in them "which was also in Christ Jesus." Were it not so, humanity would indeed be in sore straits.
