The divine possibilities

In our daily lives, when supply seems limited, or at times nonexistent, there’s much strength to be gained from understanding this passage from the book of James: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (James 1:17). The fact that God supplies His children daily—invariably—with evidence of His presence, love, supply, and power is a truth we can count on when the world tries to tell us differently.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, explains further what sort of supply we are always able to rely on: “God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies. Never ask for tomorrow: it is enough that divine Love is an ever-present help; and if you wait, never doubting, you will have all you need every moment” (Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, p. 307).

We don’t need to doubt. As we lean on God’s sustaining power, we can know that today is the day for those blessings to appear. But never doubting is a tall order, and even Christ Jesus’ disciples had their moments of uncertainty. Such as the day when Jesus fed the multitude.
